Rain!

Finally, we got some rain at our house. It rained this afternoon at work, but I was inside, of course. Didn't even know it rained until I left the building. We have been so rain-less for several weeks, the grass is brown. When I got out of the car in the driveway, the yard smelled like wet forest; such a nice smell.

Thunder, lightening and rain! Football and lots of knitting. I am almost ready for the toe shaping on Ardith's green opal sock. A perfect evening. I didn't even touch the Fair Isle gloves.

Have a good holiday weekend with lots of knitting!

Sock Progress

I put the FI Gloves aside and worked on the green opal socks. The leg of the first sock is complete and I'm working on the heel. The fabric is much more dense now with the size 0 needles.

Thanks to Lisa, I got one response about the blocking on my gloves. I was hoping the blocking would help the size, only need 1/2" or so. I will work on them at home and the socks '...will travel'. It's so much fun to knit these gloves. I'm reversing the colors light to dark from the pattern in Alice Starmore's Fair Isle Knitting. I have knit three stranded knit hats and these gloves, WIP.

GLMC is next, inspired by Lisa -- can't wait.

Help!?!?!?!

I have a serious question... will blocking help to stretch my Fair Isle Gloves? They are a little tight and I was hoping to ease them with blocking. Please give me your advice, thanks.

Cast On
I found my size 0 bamboo sock/glove needles, so, of course, I cast on the green opal socks. I know my friend Ardith is excited.

Catnip Mice
Over the weekend I bought some catnip for Wendy's Mice. I need to sit and stitch and stuff, then get them in the mail. Mine are not as interesting as Lisa's, but they were fun to knit and I hope they make some nice kitties happy. Thanks to Wendy for this fine opportunity.

Fatigue Hat

Ready to block. This was a fun hat to knit and my husband is anxious for cold weather so he can wear it. (104 hot degrees today)

Now back to the Fair Isle gloves. I'm ready to begin the fingers. I should have a picture for tomorrow's post.

Productive Weekend

Got lot's of knitting done this weekend. Also, de-nested! I cleaned out the mess around my chair, organized my knitting needles and tools. That always makes me feel better.

Here's proof of the 'will travel' part of my slogan... I cast on and began knitting on the Fatigue Hat. I take more simple items with me when I leave home. Probably will have this project completed this week.

Now for the more complicated, stay-at-home project:

FI Glove 0824.JPG

This is the glove from Alice Starmore's Fair Isle Knitting book. I have reversed the color values, replacing the lights with darks and vice versa. I found some miscellaneous 'onesies' last fall and cabbaged onto them for these gloves. I haven't knit gloves since I was in high school..... long time ago. I'm preparing myself for the Giant Latvian Mitten Cardigan, it's the next big project. BTW, the white temporary cast-on yarn will be removed when the glove is finished, I frequently use kitchener cast on.

I have a busy week at work and will be working extra hours. We'll see how much knitting I get done this week.

HOT, Hot!!

Today the temp hit 108! I don't feel like knitting, I'm just wiped out... my granddaughter didn't even want to knit. She did about 12 stitches and put it down.

I'm making a big glass of tea and going to veg in front of the football game.

Sunset

No knitting tonight. We visited nieces and great nieces from Colorado. Our last visit with them was when we traveled to see them last January. There were lots of hugs all around.

During my lunch break, I swatched the Fatigue Hat. I cast on in the car on our way to meet the nieces, knit a couple of rows. Had to put the knitting up, can't concentrate with all that hugging and talking. We even had birthday cake for the twins who turn 9, September 1.

I did catch the color in the sky...

Yesterday I got my brand new Celtic Collection in the mail! I've waited several months for the book to be reprinted and my order filled. Thanks to Marsha at Needle Arts Bookshop, her service was very good and prompt. She kept me informed while my book was backordered and emailed me when she shipped the book.

I spent some time last night and this afternoon looking through the many wonderful pictures. What to knit? I think I will work on the UFOs, knit the Giant Latvian Mitten Cardigan and then pick something from my Starmore books. I really like stranded knitting. I'd better make a list and prioritize.

Decision Made

Decided to complete the Fair Isle gloves I began earlier in the summer. Too little has been done to warrant pictures.

I'm headed out to see Mars.... more post tomorrow. Sorry this is so short.

Start Over

I just ripped the green sock. I didn't like the fabric, it was too loose, should be a little more firm. I was using 2.5mm needles with Opal, getting 8 sts per inch but not good enough! Rip it! Rip it! My 2.0mm needles are in the basket with my Fair Isle Gloves.... hmm, should I switch and complete the gloves or do the socks. I have only one cuff done and have not begun the stranded palm. Sometimes, I think it would be wonderful to have as many needles as you want.

I started swatching for The Corps of Discovery Fatigue Hat from Woodland Woolworks, the pattern calls for US8 = my swatch is too loose, again. I don't have any dp US7, so I will have to visit my LYS, too bad. Maybe they will have the red Mississippi I want for my granddaughter's fall sweater. Maybe on my way home from work, I will stop by.

It's been hot <>104 today! Probably too cloudy to see Mars tonight.

It's Done!

RGC - Royal Gorge Country sweater. I enjoyed knitting with this yarn. Wish you could see the colors in person. They are so much more vibrant.

This weekend I continued working on mice and started the green opal socks for Ardith. I also did a lot of pattern reading and planning for the Great Latvian Mitten Cardigan, hope to start it soon.
