Back to Shorter Needle

I transferred to the shorter 16" needle for the GLMC sleeve. I know I need to order more yarn, but I don't know how much. I also think I have a problem with the neck shaping. I'd better put this away for a little while, at least until I can get my brain back. The brain is overloaded with work, or maybe just overtaken by oatmeal or sawdust.

Have a good day and don't get spooked...

GLMC Sleeve

I've completed about 5.5" of the sleeve. The underarm gusset is formed and looks pretty good. I think I'm going to run out of yarn.. how much more I need, I have no idea, yet. I think I should continue with the first sleeve to see how much blue yarn it takes to complete. Seems like a lot of us are having problems with not enough yarn, no matter where we order the 'kit' or what type of yarn is used.

I'm weary of work, can't wait until all the pieces of my work project fall in place and I can move on to the next 'fire' project. Why are they always and emergency or very critical?

Attitude!

Well, my attitude has improved. One of my co-workers came by this morning and asked very timidly if I still had the blahs... she made me laugh. Proves that she reads my blog. For a non-knitter, she is very supportive of my knitting. Her input helped to make the decision on the GLMC colors. We've been friends for 13 years.

The blahs are gone, but I didn't get many rows of the sleeve knit today. We had a business dinner meeting and I only had about one hour to knit. I think I'm going to have to knit with two circs on my sleeve. I transferred from the 24" to 16" needle and I think it crowds the stitches too much. I don't want to go to dpns if I can avoid using them.

In the few minutes after I got home and before leaving for dinner, I tried to take a picture of my secret Christmas present I'm knitting from the brown alpaca I found on vacation. The color was waaaaaaay too grey and did not at all represent my stitches. It's just stockinette and really very pretty. I don't think there was enough light for the color to show properly. This picture was taken in September.

Hoping for more knitting stitches tomorrow...

Slow Knitting

Slowly knitting on the Giant Lativian Mitten Cardigan.

I'm so blah today, I don't even have any comments.

I do like my new yarn pictured in yesterday's post. I charted the pattern on my excel spreadsheet... so it's ready when I am ready to begin.

Sorry this post is so boring.

Unbeaten!!!!!!!!

I can't believe it! Chiefs WON again, we're 8 and 0. Games like tonight's makes for sporatic knitting.

This weekend has not been a good one for knitting. Work has gotten in the way, I mean my Monday thru Friday work. I was not pleased with the sleeve fabric. So I frogged it and started again on the sleeve from the second row after picked up stitches. I was knitting with my 16" needle and it did not allow me to stretch the stranded or floated stitches. This time I'm still using the 24" needle.

Presents

I got a special box in the mail on Saturday from Bea Ellis. My Kashmir pattern and yarn in blue and green. This will be a fun project, but it's down on the list. Into the stash it goes....

Knit, Knit

I have made some progress on my first GLMC sleeve, got home too late for a good picture.

However, I have a picture of something I've been day dreaming about. It's about time I get my husband's sweater assembled. I'm aiming for Thanksgiving weekend... football and knitting. Here's a picture of the pocket.

Turn It on It's Ear

Sleeve instructions are pick up stitches in pattern, turn pattern on it's ear and knit. I have knit 10 rows. These pictures were taken before the sleeve rows were knitted.

The crocheted front steek. See the division ready for cutting?

CUT!!

OK, I cut the steek! What a thrill! I have never cut a steek before. It worked wonderfully and I picked up the stitches in 'pattern' like the instructions say. Then I got about halfway around the sleeve stitches on the next row. I'm anxious to see how the pattern works as it changes directions. I've learned many new things, so far, on the Giant Lativian Mitten Cardigan. Sorry, no progress pictures.

We went to grandparents open house at school for our granddaughter. She has a wonderful teacher and seems very excited about learning. She read to us from her journal, phonetically spelled. First grade is very different than when I was there 49 years ago. Hannah wore the sweater I made for her last spring and she looked so cute.... no bias here.

I leave you with another picture of the handspun wool I purchased last weekend. It is my favorite of all four colors.

Steeking

This has been a new experience for me, steeking. I looked at several sites with crochet steeking instructions, Meg's at Schoolhouse Press - her drawing of stitches was very clear as to where to crochet. Then I looked at Lisa's at Blogdogblog pictures were really clear. Wendy's cutting pictures were clear, too, but her instructions did not include crochet steeks. I worked for a while trying to figure out if I was supposed to do a slip stitch or a single crochet to hold the steek stitches. Finally, I folded the steek holding two adjacent halves of a stitch at the top of the fold. Then I did slip stitch crochet on both sides of the center. I think I will save the cutting until tomorrow. Fun, fun, fun...

Picture before crocheting the steek.

More Yarn Delight

This is the handspun wools I got over the weekend. They are so luscious. Jan, can you guess which one will make a scarf for me?? The turquoise one, for sure.

Yarn Weekend

My husband and I visited some friends and went to a craft festival this past weekend. Of course, I found the fibers. I do not spin, I'd rather knit but I think spinning would be fun. I bought some handspun wools and mohair blends. I will take a picture tomorrow of my purchases. Here is the display of hanks.

Also while browsing through the craft tents, I spied this beautiful pattern. It is not a hand knit sweater. I thought it was attractive and interesting.

The Best News Saved for Last

I am ready to crochet the steeks and cut the armholes, then do the three-needle bind off at the shoulders of my Giant Lativian Mitten Cardigan.

This was a nice relaxing weekend. It's nice to have a break from stressful deadlines.
