Cars, Day Trips and Knitting

Car Show Winner

My sister and brother-in-law entered their newly completed Chevy street rod.  They won the Sheriff’s Choice and Best 40s Street Rod.  Isn’t it beautiful?

This is my sister’s Chevy.  She has a shelf-full of trophies and enjoys showing this car.

We enjoyed the afternoon browsing the car show with my brother, sister and her husband.

Pictorial Day Trip

Today we took an off-road trip to visit the historical markers placed recently along the original highway between Vallie and Wellsville, Colorado.   I enjoyed reading the signs and taking pictures.  We saw no wildlife but plenty of plants, old Denver & Rio Grande railroad tracks and tunnel, rocks and trees, sky and clouds.  The history of the valley where my family lives is interesting and picturesque.  And, we had the best tour guide possible, my brother-in-law.

My brother's house is in the middle of this picture taken from the other side of the highway and river.  It is a very beautiful area.

What a wonderful day.

Arkansas_river

This is the Arkansas River that flows east in the valley.  My family's homes are within a mile from the river.

Drg_bridge

A very sturdy rail bridge crosses a creek that flows into the river.

Tunnel_entrance

This tunnel was very interesting.  It was the first time I had ever walked through a train tunnel.  Unfortunately, no trains use these tracks.

The cement work in this tunnel was quite interesting.  You could see that it was poured in sections and the forms were rough wood or metal pieces.  The seams were not smooth.  Also there was lots of graffiti on the walls.

Knitting by the River

I enjoyed a few minutes knitting Opal Handpaint socks for my husband.  The wind was blowing and the view was nice.  I love knitting outside unless it is very humid.

We have been having lots of fun on our trip.

Busy Knitting

I have finished a pair of gift socks in browns.  Also, I completed a gift-exchange scarf for a holiday party.  Found some Mountain Colors Bearfoot yarn for two pairs of socks.

Blogger Encounter

My husband and I met with Cathy for a day of shopping and dinner with her husband in the evening.  We had a wonderful time sharing our love of fiber, knitting and crochet.  Cathy has a wonderful garden, I was surprised how small her yard really is.

Cathy is a gracious person and I am pleased to call her my friend. You should see her crochet curtains, some talent!

Family

We are visiting my family for a while in Southern Colorado and next week we head to Santa Fe for Arts and Craft show.

Knitting Needles and Fly Rods Packed

I can't believe it's been almost a month since my last post.  I have been very busy preparing for the next phase of my life.  The have needle..WILL TRAVEL part.  We are finally taking off for the trip we planned over five years ago.  Our final destination is Taos Wool Festival and Albuquerque Balloon Fest.  Of course, I have WIPs and new yarn packed and plans made for meet-ups with bloggers.

On the knitting front, the Fir Cone Shawl is complete but not blocked.  I knitted a Flower Basket Shawl-ette with left overs from Pacific Northwest Shawl.  A few rows need to be frogged and reknit, it cannot be forced into the correct shape at the moment.  I did finish my Opal purple socks and have been knitting the blue Wildfoote ones.  Two scarves are in the bag for gift knitting.
